Round 1 Team of the Week: Walton

It’s not how you start, or Walton would be at home this week.

The Raiders – 5-5 in the regular season and facing their first losing season since 2016 – upset fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten McEachern 28-24 last week, coming from 21-9 down starting late in the third quarter. Walton had lost to McEachern 50-17 in the opener in August in the Dave Hunter + Corky Kell Classic.

Walton head coach Daniel Brunner and the team’s captains were joined by Marshall Hunter of Siemens and David Miller of BSN Sports for the presentation of GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week award after the Raiders’ 28-24 victory over previously unbeaten McEachern in the first round of the playoffs.

“It’s just all the learning lessons that we’ve had throughout this season and the losses we’ve had,” Walton coach Daniel Brunner said. “Whether it’s a last-second field goal loss at Roswell or a double overtime to Marietta, we’re young, and we’re still learning and growing, and I think it was a testament to the lessons that you learn along the season that pay dividends in the back end.”
