Round 1 Player of the Week: Harrison’s Aiden Watson

Harrison knows about dual-threat quarterbacks. Justin Fields is a former Hoya. And while the New York Jets’ quarterback had multiple games of 200 yards rushing or 200 yards passing in high school, he never produced more than 400 total yards in a single game.

So, Aiden Watson can feel pretty good about what he did Friday night. The sophomore and first-year varsity player was 17-of-24 passing for 221 yards and rushed for 188 yards on 18 carries in a 45-35 victory over Marietta in the Class 6A first round. Watson scored all six of his team’s touchdowns.

“He’s a young player who has matured wonderfully,” Harrison coach Luqman Salam said. “His progress from the beginning of the season has been nothing but upward growth. He’s worked himself into being a smart, savvy football player, and that’s his biggest asset. He’s calm and confident regardless of the situation, and he’s very aware of where he’s going with the football prior to the snap, which allows him to make good decisions.”

Watson is GHSF Daily’s Player of the Week. The award, sponsored by Alfa Insurance, will be presented to Watson on Wednesday morning at his school.
