Flag Football Player of the Week: Southeast Bulloch’s Emma Cate Barron

Emma Cate Barron, a junior quarterback and safety at Southeast Bulloch, is GHSF Daily’s flag football player of the week. Barron led Southeast Bulloch, the defending Division 1 champion, to a 5-0 record last week while passing for 628 yards and 10 touchdowns, pulling nine flags and intercepting two passes. In Southeast Bulloch’s 10-0 start, Barron has thrown for 1,352 yards and 25 touchdowns and has six interceptions. Barron was Southeast Bulloch’s starting quarterback last season, as the Yellow Jackets won their fourth consecutive championship. Now she’s a two-way starter. “Emma Cate has worked really hard this offseason to be more of a dual threat running and passing, and she has really worked hard with studying films to get better at reading the defenses,” coach Marci Cochran said. “We have also put more on her plate by having her play full-time safety on defense as well, and she has led our team in interceptions this season because I feel she thinks like a quarterback back there and anticipates where they are going to try to attack our defense.”
