Flag Football Player of the Week: Pace Academy’s Kiyah Burrell

Pace Academy senior Kiyah Burrell is GHSF Daily’s flag football player of the week. Burrell has been an all-around athlete, playing quarterback, running back, receiver, blocker, rusher, linebacker and cornerback this season for Pace Academy, which will take a 12-6 record into the Division 4 playoffs that begin Thursday. Burrell has 1,300 rushing yards, 717 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns on offense and 53 flag pulls on defense. A four-year player, she’s the school’s career record-holder in those categories. “Kiyah has an amazing burst of speed and moves that make it almost impossible to pull her flag,” Pace coach Ty Johnson said. “She has great field vision and has had multiple 50-plus yard runs. Kiyah is also dominant on defense and an excellent flag puller who rarely misses a flag. I am very proud of Kiyah this year for pretty much doing whatever it is that the team needs, the amount of time she has dedicated to learning, watching film and purposely getting her teammates involved is admirable.” Burrell, also a sprinter on the track-and-field team, holds a 94.3 GPA, She has five offers to play flag football in college.
