Flag football Division 3: North Oconee 31, Whitewater 6
Recap: Catherine Cooper threw five touchdown passes, two to Elizabeth Patterson, to give North Oconee a 31-0 third-quarter lead, and the Titans coasted to their first state title in three appearances in the finals. Cooper was 15-of-25 passing for 229 yards, and she gave North Oconee the lead for good with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Kallie Mashburn less than five minutes into the game. Patterson finished with six receptions for 52 yards, and she had two flag pulls and a sack on defense. Mashburn had two catches for 55 yards and intercepted two passes. Whitewater’s Jaelyn Stanley passed for 103 yards, with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Emma Morgan with 5:36 left in the game. North Oconee was shut out in its past two championship game appearances, losing 18-0 to Greenbrier last year and 14-0 to Southeast Bulloch in 2023. The Titans defeated Southeast Bulloch 21-20 in the semifinals this year, ending the Yellow Jackets’ attempt at five consecutive state titles.
