Recap: Worth County rallied from a 10-0 first-quarter deficit and scored the winning touchdown late in the third quarter on Lyndon Worthy’s 7-yard pass to Jayden Farley on a seven-play, 75-yard drive. Toombs had three more possessions, but its final one was the biggest threat. After getting the ball at midfield with 4:40 remaining, the Bulldogs faced a fourth-and-1 at the Worth 31. A 5-yard penalty turned it into a fourth-and-6, and Joseph Owens’ pass was intercepted by Dashaun Rockwell at the 24 and returned to the Toombs 15 with 1:13 left. Another key moment in the game came in the final minute of the first half, when Toombs had a first-and-goal at the 8 with 47 seconds left but no timeouts. Toombs got to the 2-yard line on two running plays but spiked the ball and kicked a 19-yard field goal for a 13-10 lead. Worth held Toombs to 101 total yards in the second half.
History: Worth County won its second state championship, first since 1987, in its first finals appearance since 1990. The state title was the school’s first in any sport since 1987. Worth County became the seventh team in finals history, first since 2018 Eagle’s Landing Christian, to win after trailing by 10 or more points in the first quarter. Worth County (15-0) completed an undefeated season for the first time in history. Lyndon Worthy finished with 3,021 yards passing for the season. Toombs County (13-2) fell short in its bid for a second straight championship.
