Week 8 Team of the Week: Worth Clayton
Worth County beat Thomasville by one point last season as a 21-point underdog. This season, Worth County was something worse – actually trailing by 20 points late in the third quarter, down 34-14.
“Players were saying that we’ve just got to go play football, and coaches were just saying to trust our stuff and everything was going to play out in the end,” quarterback Lyndon Worthy said.
Worth County rallied to win 41-40 in overtime to put the Rams (7-0, 3-0) alone in first place in Region 1-A Division I.
The 2024 victory moved Worth County into the top 10 and was the critical game toward the Rams' first region title since 1989. The 2025 victory validated the Rams' 4-week-old No. 1 ranking, their best standing since 1990. Thomasville was ranked No. 3 during both wins.
Worth County is GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN Sports and Siemens.
