Quarterfinal/Semifinal Player of the Week: Gainesville’s Darryn Williams

Gainesville’s Darryn Williams is joined by head coach Josh Niblett for the presentation of GHSF Daily’s Player of the Week award after the Red Elephants’ 40-32 victory over Hughes in the Class 5A quarterfinals.

Playoff games between highly ranked opponents often come down to a few critical plays. Gainesville’s Darryn Williams was in many of them last week in his team’s 40-32 victory over No. 1-ranked Hughes in the Class 5A quarterfinals.

The junior linebacker made 10 solo tackles, forced two fumbles and returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown. Williams’ first forced fumble set up Gainesville’s first touchdown, and his interception return put Gainesville up 27-13. It was his third touchdown on an interception return in the playoffs.
