Flag Football Player of the Week: North Oconee’s Catherine Cooper
North Oconee quarterback Catherine Cooper is GHSF Daily’s flag football player of the week. The senior led North Oconee to playoff victories over Effingham County 39-0 and Trinity Christian 49-6 last week while completing 45 of 53 passes for 424 yards and nine touchdowns in the two games. She has thrown for 4,151 yards and 59 touchdowns this season. “Catherine throws the ball better than anyone I've seen in the state, moves her feet and runs when she needs to and has the ability to read the defense per snap and know what’s going to work on the field,” North Oconee coach Nicole O’Mara said. North Oconee is 20-3 and ranked No. 1 in Georgia in all classes by MaxPreps. The flag football quarterfinals and semifinals are Monday. North Oconee will play Long County in a four-team group that includes four-time state champion Southeast Bulloch and host Northside of Warner Robins. North Oconee was a state runner-up to Greenbrier last season.
