Prince Avenue Christian, Kell win opening games of 2025 season

Prince Avenue Christian and Kell opened the 2025 football season with victories on a rainy Wednesday in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic at Kell High.

Prince Avenue Christian, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A-A Private, trailed 17-14 at halftime but scored 26 unanswered points in the second half to beat Class 2A No. 4 Callaway 40-17.

Andrew Beard scored on runs of 50 and 54 yards and caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Ben Musser. Beard finished with 143 yards rushing on 13 carries and 71 yards receiving on six catches. Musser was 14-of-19 passing for 227 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 108 yards and a TD on eight carries.

Prince Avenue was the Class 3A-A runner-up last season after winning Class A Division I championships the previous two seasons.

The game took more than four and a half hours to play because of two lengthy weather delays.

In the second game, Kell scored three touchdowns in the first 13 minutes, built the lead to 34-7 by halftime and coasted to a 44-21 victory over South Paulding.

Moonie Gipson had 194 yards rushing on 16 carries and scored on runs of 14 and 63 yards. He also had one catch covering 17 yards for another score.

Kell is ranked No. 10 in Class 4A.
