National Rankings: Grayson moves to No. 1 in High School Football America 300

Defending Class 6A champion Grayson, riding a school-record 24-game winning streak into the playoffs next week, has moved to No. 1 in the High School Football America 300 national rankings.

Grayson is the first Georgia team to hold the top spot in the HSFA rankings since Colquitt County was named its national champion in 2015. Last season, Milton finished No. 1 in the HSFA Public Schools rankings but was No. 2 overall behind Mater Dei of California.

Grayson also is ranked in the top three of five other polls, holding the No. 2 spot according to MaxPreps and NationalHSFB.com and the No. 3 position in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated, Blue Star Media and USA Today rankings.

The Rams moved up one spot from No. 2 in the HSFA rankings after previous No. 1 St. John Bosco of California lost to Mater Dei 36-31 last week. Following the Rams in the top five are No. 2 IMG Academy of Florida, No. 3 Mater Dei, No. 4 St. John Bosco and No. 5 St. Frances Academy of Maryland.

Other Georgia teams in the HSFA top 50 are No. 8. Buford, No. 32 Hughes, No. 41 North Gwinnett, No. 46 Creekside and No. 48 Douglas County. Grayson potentially could face Carrollton in the quarterfinals in a rematch of last year’s state championship game, North Gwinnett in the semifinals, and Buford or Douglas County in the finals.

Grayson finished the regular season 10-0 and won Region 4-6A for its 14th region championship in 18 seasons. The Rams will open the playoffs at home on Nov. 14 against Norcross.

Here is where Georgia teams stand in several national polls. The numbers on the left are this week's rankings; the numbers in parentheses are last week's rankings.
