Buford opens new stadium, ends Milton’s 25-game winning streak

Buford beat Milton 20-13 Thursday night in the first game played at Buford's $62 million Phillip Beard Stadium. Buford's victory ended Milton's 25-game winning streak.

Buford, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A, took command early in the second half on Silas Nuckles' 70-yard interception return for a touchdown and a 17-7 lead. Another interception, by Joshua Echols, returned to the Milton 15-yard line set up a field goal and a 20-7 lead. Milton, ranked No. 3 in Class 5A, got within 20-13 but never threatened to tie.

Buford and Milton were among four top-10 teams that played Thursday. No. 2 Hebron Christian of Class 3A-A Private beat North Atlanta 29-22, and No. 5 Cartersville of Class 4A beat Columbia 44-0.
