Week 6 Offensive Line of the Week: Richmond Hill
GHSF Daily’s Offensive Line of the Week is Richmond Hill’s unit of Ho'o Naki, Brody Miller, Billy Meadows, Thomas Zimbalatti, Cam Jackson, Blake Whitaker, Brooks Gilbert, Colton Sanchez and Jaylon Deal. They paved the way for 462 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in a 35-28 win over nationally ranked Buchholz of Gainesville, Fla.
Week 5 Student-Athlete of the Week: Woodstock’s Cooper Price
Cooper Price, a senior linebacker at Woodstock, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Price has a 4.0 GPA and is a team captain. The two-year starter is tied for the team lead in total tackles through five games. He has seven sacks, four tackles for losses and two fumble recoveries.
Week 5 Team of the Week: Mount Zion (Jonesboro)
Mount Zion of Jonesboro had lost 20 consecutive games when Willie Binyard became head coach in the summer of 2022, just weeks before the first game. “I had a lot of mentors say don’t take it. It’s a losing program, you can get stuck there,” Binyard said.
Week 5 Player of the Week: Roswell’s Trey Smith
Roswell was tasked this season with replacing a two-year starting quarterback who threw for more than 5,500 yards and rushed for more than 1,000 with 73 total touchdowns in his career. That was K.J. Smith. Now meet Trey Smith.
Week 5 Offensive Line of the Week: Chattooga
GHSF Daily’s Offensive Line of the Week is Chattooga’s unit of Luke Reece, Fletcher Crowe, Malcolm Wiggins, Luke Busby and Dakhari Black with tight ends Brayden Howard, David Lowe, Stanton Peppers, Koi Dodd and Kadin Fife. They paved the way for 320 rushing yards in a 56-6 victory over Gordon Central.
Week 4 Student-Athlete of the Week: New Hampstead’s Rashawn Truell
Rashawn Truell, a senior quarterback at New Hampstead, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Truell has a 4.0 GPA and in his first four games has 712 passing yards and 10 touchdowns (eight passing, two rushing).
Week 4 Team of the Week: Toombs County
Toombs County was the preseason No. 1 team in Class A Division I in multiple human polls, including GHSF Daily’s. The Bulldogs’ only losses last season were to Class 2A finalists Pierce County and Rockmart. Now, Toombs is one class lower while returning QB T.J. Stanley and DB/WR Lagonza Hayward, their two most prominent players.
Week 4 Player of the Week: Warner Robins’ Skyler Williams
With five touchdowns and 305 rushing and passing yards, Warner Robins quarterback Skyler Williams had the flashy statistics in his team’s 55-44 victory over Houston County. But they don’t tell how well he really played, according to Warner Robins coach Shane Sams.
Week 4 Offensive Line of the Week: North Cobb
North Cobb’s unit of left tackle Isaac Sikes-Ransby, left guard Jackson Oliver, center Joshua Dahan, right guard Alex Kolev and right tackle Brandon Anderson with tight ends Damar Madison-Clay and Jason Grier helped the Warriors put up 426 total yards while allowing no sacks in a 43-14 victory over Cass.
Week 3 Student-Athlete of the Week: Peachtree Ridge’s Darnell Kelly
Darnell Kelly, a junior quarterback at Peachtree Ridge, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Kelly is an honor student with a 3.5 GPA. He has passed for 405 yards and three touchdowns in his first two games this season. He has offers from several schools, including Kentucky, Colorado State and UMass.
Week 3 Team of the Week: North Gwinnett
It’s never easy to win in Moultrie, and 14 points isn’t usually enough to do it. North Gwinnett won with defense Friday night, becoming the first team to hold Colquitt County without a touchdown since 2017 in a 14-3 victory.
Week 3 Player of the Week: Houston County’s Isaiah Mitchell
The old cliché about making up for lost time fits no Georgia player better than Isaiah Mitchell, Houston County’s new star receiver. Mitchell had to sit out his junior season for academic reasons. He bided his time, helping coach his new team, which his coach, Jeremy Edwards, credits with maturing him. Mitchell is now a breakout player in Georgia.
Week 3 Offensive Line of the Week: Marist
Marist's offensive line of left tackle Austin Sperry, left guard Henry Utsch, center Matt Monarchik, right guard Kelly Spalding and right tackle Brady Barry paved the way for 337 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a 38-0 victory over then-No. 10 Woodward Academy of Class 5A.
Week 2 Student-Athlete of the Week: Swainsboro’s Bryson Tarver
Bryson Tarver, a senior quarterback/defensive back at Swainsboro, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Tarver has 190 rushing yards, three touchdowns and 12 tackles in the Tigers’ first two games, He has a 4.0 GPA, is a member of the Honors Program, and received the UGA Certificate of Merit.
Week 2 Team of the Week: Fannin County
Fannin County added more adventures to its new-heights tour last week under seventh-year head coach Chad Cheatham, an alumnus. The 28-7 victory over Rabun County was Fannin’s first over a ranked team since 1995. Fannin’s new ranking, No. 5 in Class A Division I, is the highest in school history.
Week 2 Player of the Week: Collins Hill’s Deuce Geralds
Collins Hill is off to a 2-0 start with tight victories over ranked teams. In the latest, a 21-14 win against Woodward Academy, junior defensive lineman Deuce Geralds had three sacks and scored on a 41-yard run to break a 14-14 tie.
Week 2 Offensive Line of the Week: Dublin
Dublin’s offensive line of Domimarkeyo Walden, Jayden O'Neal, Brennan McCloud, Antwain Hudson and Ta’Maj Carswell with tight ends Brandon Chatman and QuanTavis Lovett paved the way for 512 rushing yards (14.6 yards per carry) and eight rushing touchdowns in a 66-26 victory over East Laurens.
Week 1 Student-Athlete of the Week: Pace Academy’s Gavin Jeffries
Gavin Jeffries, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound senior offensive and defensive lineman at Pac Academy, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Jeffries is a football team captain and has a 97 GPA. He has an offer from Stetson University for football.
Week 1 Team of the Week: Douglass
Douglass was 11-2 as recently as 2019, but the program crashed during the COVID-19 season of 2020, going 0-5 and canceling several games. The Astros hired an alumnus, Arabia Mountain coach and former NFL player Stanley Pritchett. It took a year to make the playoffs, three to have a winning season and four to beat a top-10 team for the first time.
Week 1 Player of the Week: Fellowship Christian’s Jonathan Granby
The Fellowship Christian quarterback Jonathan Granby passed 128 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-35 victory Friday over defending Class A Division II champion Bowdon. It wasn’t Granby’s numbers. It was his timing and precision.
