Week 11 Player of the Week: Frederica Academy’s Jordan Triplett
They have to know what’s coming. It rarely matters. Jordan Triplett, a senior running back at GIAA school Frederica Academy of St. Simons Island, rushed for 404 yards and seven touchdowns on 40 carries last week in a 54-49 victory over Pinewood Christian. Triplett’s big night put him over 2,000 yards rushing on the season (2,199) and over 8,000 in his career (8,055).
Week 11 Offensive Line of the Week: Norcross
GHSF Daily’s Offensive Line of the Week is the Norcross unit of left tackle Rontay Grady, left guard Myron McNeil, center Cole Hilsmier, right guard Kendal Ramsey and right tackle Ethan LaPia with tight ends Robert Benson and Michael Straughter. They paved the way for 342 rushing yards and 472 yards of total offense with no sacks in a 35-17 victory over previously undefeated Peachtree Ridge.
Flag Football Player of the Week: Southeast Bulloch’s Alex Odom
Alex Odom, a senior at Southeast Bulloch, is GHSF Daily’s Flag Football Player of the Week. Odom had 21 receptions for 417 yards and eight touchdowns, pulled 13 flags and intercepted two passes during Southeast Bulloch’s 8-0 week.
Week 10 Student-Athlete of the Week: Tyler Denny, Prince Avenue Christian
Tyler Denny, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior kicker and punter at Prince Avenue Christian, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Denny, who has a 3.9 GPA, has contributed 60 kicking points (51-of-52 on extra points, 3-for-3 on field goals) with a punting average of 36.9 yards and a long of 51 yards.
Week 10 Team of the Week: Kell
It’s not over, but the computer Maxwell Ratings love Kell’s odds of winning its first region championship since 2014. “Looks like 999,994 out of a million with GAC winning it the other six times,” according to the Maxwell Ratings founder himself, Loren Maxwell.
Week 10 Player of the Week: Milton’s Luke Nickel
In a game that decided first place in Region 6-7A last week, Milton junior quarterback Luke Nickel passed for school records of 457 yards and five touchdowns as the Eagles went on the road and defeated West Forsyth 45-14.
Week 10 Offensive Line of the Week: Colquitt County
GHSF Daily’s Offensive Line of the Week is Colquitt County’s unit of left tackle Ja’Quavian “Turk” Daniels, left guards Khalil Collins and Tayshaun Hooks, center Jay’Den Williams, right guard Casey Scott and right tackle Xavier Nickerson. They paved the way for 301 yards rushing and 347 yards passing – both season highs – in a 52-34 victory over Lowndes.
Flag Football Player of the Week: Allatoona’s Maci Strickland
Allatoona senior quarterback Maci Strickland is GHSF Daily’s Flag Football Player of the Week. Strickland passed for 1,123 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 187 yards and eight touchdowns to help her team to a 6-0 week to open the season.
Week 9 Student-Athlete of the Week: Sam Nazarian, Mount Vernon
Sam Nazarian, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound quarterback at Mount Vernon, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Nazarian has a 4.3 GPA and scored a 33 on the ACT. He has passed for about 1,471 yards and has 25 combined passing and rushing touchdowns this season for the 5-2 Mustangs.
Week 9 Team of the Week: Elbert County
Elbert County and Rabun County are just 75 miles apart in northeast Georgia, but they had never played each other in football until 2016. The timing could not have been worse for Elbert. Rabun County was three years into what would become a 50-game winning streak in region play, and the dynasty would cost Elbert County at least four region titles.
Week 9 Player of the Week: Mill Creek’s Trajen Greco
Mill Creek’s Josh Lovelady paid Trajen Greco a great compliment in preseason when the coach said his wide receiver/cornerback was “probably our most athletic kid” and “has tremendous ball skills, similar to Downs.” Downs would be Caleb Downs, the 2022 all-classification state player of the year who now starts in Alabama’s secondary.
Week 9 Offensive Line of the Week: Fellowship Christian
GHSF Daily’s Offensive Line of the Week is Fellowship Christian’s unit of left tackle Josh Petty, left guard Caleb Silvers, center Parker Acrey, right guard Evan Hildebrandt and right tackle Caden Coffin with tight end Caden Lickovitch. They paved the way for 422 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 38 carries in a 52-28 victory over 10th-ranked Athens Academy.
Flag Football Player of the Week: Pope’s Carly Oubs
Carlee Oubs, a senior at Pope, is GHSF Daily’s Flag Football Player of the Week. Pope was 7-0 last week in games that Oubs played. Oubs, a wide receiver/cornerback, had 423 receiving yards for 10 touchdowns, intercepted three passes, returning two for touchdowns, and pulled nine flags while typically playing little more than a half.
Week 8 Student-Athlete of the Week: Christian Johnson, Pace Academy
Christian Johnson, a 6-foot-2, 203-pound senior running back/linebacker at Pace Academy, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Johnson has a 93.6 GPA and has Division I football offers from Army, Indiana, Memphis, Cincinnati and South Florida, among others.
Week 8 Team of the Week: Loganville
It wasn’t just the game that was getting away from Loganville last week. It was the Red Devils’ season. Another loss would’ve been their third in Region 8-5A, and their next opponent would be No. 3 Jefferson. In what might've been a must-win situation, Loganville found a way.
Week 8 Player of the Week: Brookwood School’s Rodge Waldrop
In a game of 115 points and 1,303 yards, quarterback Rodge Waldrop stood tall Friday night. The 6-foot-5 left-hander from Brookwood School in Thomasville passed for a state-record 698 yards and a record-tying nine touchdowns in a 59-56 victory over Deerfield-Windsor.
Week 8 Offensive Line of the Week: Commerce
Commerce’s offensive line of left tackle Braxton Epps, left guard Logan Gunter, center Boston Brown, right guard Michael Duncan and right tackle Joey Duncan with tight ends Corey Suber and Bryson Fleeman and H-backs De’Kan Williams and Hoke Hogan paved the way for 405 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a 34-0 victory over Social Circle last week.
Flag Football Player of the Week: Pace Academy’s Ansli Hennings
Ansli Hennings, a senior at Pace Academy, is GHSF Daily’s Flag Football Player of the Week. In four games last week, all victories, Hennings intercepted four passes, had four flag pulls, caught 12 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns and scored five extra points.
Week 7 Student-Athlete of the Week: Xaden Benson, North Atlanta
Xaden Benson, a 6-foot, 180-pound senior wide receiver and defensive back at North Atlanta, is the scoutSMART Student-Athlete of the Week. Benson, who has a 4.2 GPA, has 386 yards receiving with eight total touchdowns (five offensive, three defensive) and three interceptions.
Week 7 Team of the Week: Mary Persons
A year ago, Mary Persons took the kind of beating (47-14) that Prince Avenue Christian administered to most of its opponents during a 14-0 season. But Mary Persons has done something that no other team has – atoned for it. The Bulldogs defeated Prince Avenue 45-28 last week, ending the Wolverines’ 20-game winning streak.
