Week 5 Team of the Week: Northgate

Coweta County Schools has three football teams, and Northgate has been third for most of its history, with no victories over Newnan or East Coweta.

In a game between unbeaten county rivals last week, Northgate broke through. beating Newnan 35-21, likely the most satisfying regular-season triumph in the Vikings' 28 seasons of varsity football.

Northgate’s seniors and head coach Kevin Whitley were joined by Erin Kelly and Chase Cooper of BSN Sports and Justin Jones of Siemens for the presentation of GHSF Daily’s Team of the Week award after their 35-21 victory over Newnan in Week 5.

Northgate improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in Region 3-5A.

“Northgate has been the underdog in the city, projected to go 0-10 and, quite frankly, written off,” linebacker Brysen Davies said. “We have been building this program out in the open, but now everyone’s forced to take notice.”
