Cass is GHSF Daily’s state Team of the Week, and there hasn’t been a more clear-cut choice this season.

The Colonels’ 27-17 victory over fourth-ranked Jefferson in the Class 5A first round last week was their first postseason win since 1983 and the first over a ranked opponent from the same classification in school history.

Cass coaches and players received the Georgia Team of the Week plaque at their school on Nov. 17, 2022.

Cass had been 0-81 vs. top-10 teams from the same class since its first varsity season in 1953.

Jefferson was pegged as a 30-point favorite by the computer Maxwell Ratings, but Cass took charge from the start as freshman quarterback Brodie McWhorter threw three TD passes, and Kevin Henderson returned an interception for a touchdown for a 27-0 first-half lead.
