Week 12 Team of the Week: Harlem

Harlem won its first region title since 1974 last week with a 27-13 victory over Morgan County in Region 4-3A.

The victory was especially satisfying for coach Mark Boiter, a Harlem alumnus who has worked at his alma mater the past 17 years, or since leaving college.

The Harlem Bulldogs were named Georgia’s Team of the Week after winning their first region championship since 1974.

Two other Harlem alumni are on Harlem's staff. Lonnie Morris has been coaching at the Augusta-area school for 42 years. Chris Waters is in his 20th season.

The championship was built around defense. Under defensive coordinator Brian Usry, Harlem has allowed 11.1 points per game, the lowest in Class 3A.

Harlem is GHSF Daily’s state Team of the Week. The award is sponsored by BSN Sports and Titan Electric.
