Bowdon hadn’t won a road playoff game since 2013, and things weren’t looking good Friday night, when the top-ranked Red Devils trailed third-ranked Early County 19-0 in the first half of their Class A Division II quarterfinal.

Coach Richard Fendley and members of the Bowdon football team accepted the Team of the Week plaque at their school on Nov. 30, 2022.

“You have to have a genuine love for your team to play that hard for each other to overcome being down 19 points,” Bowdon coach Richard Fendley said.

Bowdon scored 29 unanswered points on the way to a 36-26 victory. It put the Red Devils in the semifinals for the first time since 2005. They play at home Friday against Lincoln County.
