Flag Football Player of the Week: Telfair County’s Jada Batten
Jada Batten, a senior back on offense and a rusher/linebacker or defense at Telfair County, is GSHF Daily’s flag football player of the week. Batten has run for 495 yards and seven touchdowns, caught 18 passes for 163 yards and made 35 flag pulls and 19 sacks for an 8-0 team that is No. 1 in MaxPreps’ Division I rankings. Telfair County defeated Dodge County 14-13 last week to move into first place in Area 3 of Division I. Batten also is an elite track-and-field athlete. As a junior last spring, she won the Class A Division I 300-meter hurdles (47.20 seconds), was runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles (15.39 seconds) and was third in the long jump (16 feet, 3.5 inches). “Jada is a phenomenal athlete at our school,” Telfair County coach Deon Clemons said. “She won MVP in every sport she participated in including basketball, flag football and track. In flag, she impacts the game so much with her speed and determination to score or pull the flag.” Several schools have offered Batten scholarships for track and field, and Brewton-Parker University has shown interest for flag football.
