Flag Football Player of the Week: McEachern’s Ava Couzens
Ava Couzens, a senior at McEachern, is GHSF Daily’s flag football player of the week. Couzens plays quarterback, wide receiver and safety for an 8-0 team on a 37-game winning streak. For the season, she is 41-of-71 passing for 345 yards and nine touchdowns. She has rushed for 131 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries and caught 28 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, she has six interceptions, five pass breakups and five flag pulls. In victories over Harrison and Alpharetta last week, she had four total touchdowns and two interceptions. "She has a special skill set," McEachern coach Jake Burgdorf said. "She can play any position on the field, offense or defense, and be dominant. She starts at safety and plays a hybrid receiver/quarterback position for us as well. She is beyond coachable and is a great teammate above all else." Couzens has offers from Point, Life, Reinhardt, Milligan and Lees-McRae.
